Contextualization: Constructive Interaction Between Culture, People, Church, and the Theological Programme

Abstract

The question of contextualization inevitably arises whenever a religion is introduced to a population whose cultural background differs from that of the bearer. Despite its importance, major Christian denominations in Africa have only recently begun to address this issue seriously. This paper describes the problem of cultural divergence and underscores the urgency for theological educators to incorporate contextualization into curriculum revision. Additionally, it offers practical guidelines to assist institutions in navigating the process of aligning theological education with local cultural contexts.
